This class is an opportunity to experience the unique joys and techniques of playing with others, utilizing two forms: 1) jamming, creating spontaneous group sound by diving in together, and 2) creating complete pieces of music with specific arrangements: devising particular song structure and roles for each instrument while exploring elements such as melody, harmony, and rhythm. We’ll have fun learning selected songs drawing from a variety of traditions such as Old-time/Bluegrass/Country, Blues, Cajun, Irish/Celtic, Balkan, and more. Participants will have an opportunity, as desired, to stretch their comfort zone, e.g. trying a solo when used to playing rhythm, trying new strumming patterns for different rhythms, finding harmonies to play or sing, offering arrangement ideas, etc.
All levels and any and all instruments welcome!
