Clawhammer is a wide-spread style of Southern Old Time banjo. It is the foundational accompaniment for fiddle music, but is infinitely adaptable to accompanying songs and ballads as well. In this class, we’ll focus on crucial right hand techniques: the basic clawhammer stroke, double-thumbing and drop-thumbing, as well as left-hand slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs. The class will learn these techniques in the context of songs and fiddle tunes. Students should bring a five-string banjo and recording device to class.
