It’s fun! The banjo is ideal for playing chords and it’s easier than many instruments for learning to play melodic accompaniment. This class is for learning basic techniques on the right and left hands, and also knowing tunes and songs ‘by ear.’ It will start with a few essential tunes that encourage players to practice phrase-by-phrase, in order to memorize and honestly know a tune. Tips will be given about how to join in on jams or in an ensemble. On day two, the class will work to fit the melody within the pattern, and to try playing in several tunings. Handouts will be given to help understand tablature and for follow-up resources. Bring your banjo, a capo, a strap and a tuner…ring, ring the banjo!
