This class begins by introducing students to guitar parts and common terms. We will then start strumming chords “in rhythm” with familiar songs and connect by playing together; even if participants have different levels of “beginning’ experience. Tuning and simplifying your approach will help everyone play at their own pace using whichever technique you are ready to try. Strum coordination and timing will be specified for accompanying reels, waltzes, folksongs, jigs and more with examples that support these styles. We will start with a simple strum, boom-chick with a pick, and delve into finger-picking for sensitive songs (for those who are ready). More experienced players can work on beginning bass runs, unusual time signatures, singing while you play, styles and tune dynamics. For extra fun, we’ll encourage everyone to get in the groove … then we’ll give you enough new skills and follow-up resources to make you want to play more.
