TThis class begins by playing together, even if participants have different levels of “beginning’ experience. Tuning, strum coordination, starting notes and timing will be specified to help first-timers get started. Those who have some experience but need practice playing a variety of songs & styles will be given additional techniques to enhance their accompaniment. Songs and tunes such as reels, waltzes, jigs and more will be demystified as we study examples and how to approach that kind of selection. We will practice various strums, boom-chick with a pick, trying minor and 7th chords and coordinating left & right hands, singing, and playing. Tapping toes is not required but is encouraged. We’ll even delve into fingerpicking for sensitive songs (for those who are ready). More experienced players can work on beginning bass runs and tune dynamics. For extra fun, we’ll encourage everyone to get in the groove. We’ll give you new skills to practice, follow-up resources and enough fun that you’ll want to play more. Bring a guitar, a tuner (or your phone) and a capo.
