If you’re a guitarist eager to explore the mandolin, this two-session class is for you. We’ll take your existing knowledge and show you how it translates to the mandolin fretboard, focusing on the core techniques and fingerboard knowledge needed for playing rhythm. We’ll cover how familiar guitar chords transfer to the mandolin, including open chords, movable shapes, and useful voicings. We’ll also delve into the layout of the mandolin fingerboard, helping to understand how scales and arpeggios connect to common chord changes. And to get that classic bluegrass sound, we’ll introduce you to the essential technique of chop chords. This class provides a solid starting point for mandolin playing, bridging the gap between your guitar skills and the world of mandolin rhythm. We will be looking at 2 fiddle tunes in this class, Sandy Boys and another TBD.
