Have you ever wondered how Little Walter and Sonny Boy II (among others) got their sound? This two-part class will explore the techniques that these great blues harmonica players used to achieve their tone on the records of greats like Muddy Waters as well as their own classics. If you’ve ever tried playing along with one of your favorite blues records and couldn’t quite find the notes on your harp then this course is for you. Feel free to bring in a recording of the ones that have stumped you and we’ll try to decipher the magic formula to reproduce the parts.
Students should bring a 10-hole diatonic harmonica in the key of A. Lee Oskar major diatonic or Hohner Special 20 harmonicas recommended. Multiple key harps are helpful but not necessary in this class.
