• Blues Music Camp 2023

  • November 3-5, 2023

WUMB’s Blues Music Camp offers a full weekend of classes and workshops exploring a wide range of blues styles and forms, from guitar to harmonica to vocal and ensemble-playing. We’ve invited some of the best blues and roots musicians in New England  – and beyond – to share their expertise and insights.

Come enjoy a weekend filled with intensive instruction, jamming, workshops, concerts, an open mic, and musical collaboration. Plus, there will be a special one-hour presentation by WUMB’s Holly Harris, host of Spinning the Blues. Instructors are attuned to the needs of each student – from elementary to advanced – so bring your instrument, an open mind, and join in!

Instructors:

Chris “Stovall” Brown
John Doerschuk
Justin Golden
Hubby Jenkins
Lisa Marie
Danielle Miraglia
Arthur Terembula

Groton is about an hour northwest of downtown Boston. The camp is in a beautifully wooded area, and facilities are comfortable. Rooms are single or double, with private or shared bathrooms. The food is hearty, and the desserts are legendary. Walking between buildings is on fairly level ground, give or take possible snow banks! Oh – and there are several working fireplaces. Space is limited, and we encourage you to sign up early!

Registration opens at 4:00pm on Friday afternoon.
Dinner is at 6:00pm.
Alcohol is not allowed at the Blues Music Camp.

Camp Information

Weather and Environment:
Prepare for fall/winter weather, so bring layers as well as sturdy shoes or boots! All of the cabins have heat and hot water, so you’ll be cozy inside. The camp is located in the beautiful Groton forest by a lake, so be ready to get outdoorsy. The ground can be uneven and, if it snows, pretty slippery, so be careful of your surroundings.

What to Bring
To be prepared for all the activities and weather, here are some suggestions on what to bring with you:

  • Single-sized sheets, pillows and pillowcases, blankets, towels and toiletries.
  • Flashlight
  • Alarm Clock
  • Your own marked mug for coffee – there are coffee makers in several lounges and the dining hall
  • Sweaters, long johns, thick socks, warm winter outerwear
  • Good winter walking boots
  • An umbrella and/or rain poncho
  • Your musical instruments (that includes singing voices)
  • A recording device – some workshops may be entirely by ear and a recording device makes practicing later easier
